Lila is an engineer, venture capitalist, tech executive, board member, and mom to twin daughters. Her 30+ year career in technology is defined by mission meeting the moment. She is the Chief Operating Officer at Google DeepMind. In addition to overseeing the AI company's day-to-day operations, Lila's remit includes bringing Google DeepMind's technology to the world; she heads Partnerships, Social Impact, External Affairs, Ethics & Responsibility, Legal, and Government Relations. Her passion for fostering responsible innovation led Time Magazine to recognize Lila among its inaugural list of AI's 100 Most Influential People.
Previously, she held senior positions at Coursera, Kleiner Perkins, and Intel. In those roles, she gained extensive professional experience in emerging markets, including the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, where she lived and worked for seven years. Lila co-founded and chairs Team4Tech, an education non-profit that builds computing infrastructure and capacity to teach technology to under-resourced communities globally. She is passionate about building teams, applying a principled approach to problem solving, and connecting people and networks for maximum impact.
